Documentation:FIB book/Head

From UBC Wiki

Head injuries can be divided between the face (i.e. the front of the head), the skull (the structures that protect the brain) and the brain. We will discuss face and skull on this page, and brain in the next section.

Facial Injuries

Facial injuries can include nasal fracture, zygoma fracture, eye injuries, lacerations, and more.

Skull Injuries

There are two main types of skull fractures.

Head Injury Criterion (HIC), evolved from the Wayne State Tolerance Curve (WSTC), is used to determine the severity of a brain injury using its acceleration time series:

The time frame t2-t1 is variable, but the widely used time frame spans to 36ms: t2-t1 = 36.
