Getting Started

Welcome to Math 110, section 002!

Let me walk you through a few things about the way this course is handled. This course is designed to maximize student interaction. Students work individually and in teams during lectures. The reason behind this is my strong belief (backed by several decades of research!) that it's a better use of our time if we try to understand some math all together in the classroom instead of me lecturing and then you trying to figure it on your own later.

This has a few implications. First, there are reading assignments for most classes; this guarantees that you come to class with a sufficient amount of knowledge to participate in the activities. So of course it also implies that I want you to come to class.

You will be assigned to a team at some point early in the term and will be working with this team throughout the year, during lectures and during workshops. A significant part of your final grade is based on the work you will produce with your group.

This is why it is essential for your success in this course that you attend both lectures and workshops.

Now to get you really started, make sure you get both textbooks and an iClicker (described on the main page). Your iClicker should be registered on the Vista page of this course. Have a look at the course outline and visit the other pages of this wiki.
