Today, we support over 1,600 schools across Canada, serving breakfast to over 200,000 students each morning.

We work to promote the core values of engagement, enrichment and empowerment, and we team up with communities and local partners to develop solutions adapted to their specific needs

Project Information

Project Description

Students will review receipts submitted by all schools across Western Canada. From this, they will flag schools that are not meeting our nutrition standards and indicate items of concern. Students will determine the top five most reoccurring food items that are not supported by our nutrition guidelines and create a chart to demonstrate this data.

Project Goal

The goal of this project is to provide insight into what each breakfast program serves on a monthly basis. Determining the five most reoccurring "no-go" food items will allow BCC coordinators to focus their attention on certain items when providing nutrition training to school administrators and coordinators.

Expected Outcomes

Learning Outcomes

  • I hope students will learn about school meal programs, children and youth nutrition, and further develop their data collection and analytical skills.
  • I think students will come to appreciate working strategically as a group to gather and synthesize data
  • Through this project, students will develop an understanding of an understanding of the work that goes into upholding the programs that we support.

Organizational Outcomes

Providing BCC coordinators with the information they need to start conversations with school coordinators about avoiding the purchase of specific unhealthy foods that were found on their school’s receipts.

More broadly, this project advances our organization’s goals by providing information that will be used to help support the Club’s goal to encourage healthy eating habits and food literacy in our partners and the students we serve.
