Artist Biography
Ze Frank was born in Albany, New York in 1972, with his education beginning at Montessori as a child, and the progression to Brown University as an adolescent; he then graduated with a neuroscience degree in 1995. During his University years, he was compelled to play music and became a lead singer for his then-band "Dowdy Smack",[1] which seems to be where his artistic talent began. It was not until 2003 that Ze Frank married Jody Bandt, his long term girlfriend that he and met at Brown University, and it was in 2008 that they decided to move to Westwood, Los Angeles, California.
History
In Ze Frank's late teens and early 20s, he was apart of the band called "Dowdy Smack". His inclusionary role as lead vocalist and guitar player lead to the development of his other artistic abilities. Being a Neuroscience graduate from Browns University allowed him to become this neuroscience artist hybrid, as he flourished not only as an artist, but also as an author, teacher, and public speaker. As Ze Frank became more and more comfortable with the web, he transferred his artistic skills on to this medium, and his popularity grew by great numbers. His site included short films, interactive projects, video games, and animations, which eventually led to him being awarded the Webby Award[2] in 2002 for the category "Best Personal Website." This has allowed him to prosper as an individual, in becoming a public speaker in multiple TED Conferences, and teaching others as a professor at Parsons School of Design, ITP/NYU, and SUNY Purchase.
Exhibitions
With Ze Frank being an online performance artist, he performs his exhibitions virtually through the means of his website. This includes his famous daily video program "the show with zefrank"[3], and "a show".[4] Moreover, Ze Frank held a special event on the 12th and 13th of January 2013, where he hosted a public event at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History. The span of these two days were called "Ze Frank Weekend", where he hosted hands-on workshops and held exhibits that related to "a show".
