Academic Goals and Interests

Sitting on a peaceful beach at sunset.jpg

I expected to be admitted by UBC when I am in high school and I have reached my target. My academic goal for now is transferring from economy to commercial science in my junior year because I decided to go into business after graduation. I am really interested in business and I attended FEUTURE National Business Challenge, the best-known Business competition in China. I played the part of a trader, whose responsibility was to purchase products from manufacturers, and sell them to consumers with appropriate marketing strategies. It was a success and I won a second prize. I am also interested in photography and photography for me is about understanding the environment.

Volunteer Experience

I did not attend any school activities but have already sent my application to the Chinese Students and Scholars Association. I personally think participating in volunteer activities is meaningful and educational for teenagers so sometimes I would volunteer to help children in some poor villages. I usually went there with my friends because we all think teaching children is a pleasant thing. In the Mid-Autumn Day last year, I worked as a volunteer in a primary school, where I spent a special festival with the kids. I read them stories and watched an English Movie together. We also made moon cakes, the traditional Chinese food that means unity and happiness of families. Except that, I also volunteer worked in some significant events held in my city and I always feel pleased after an exhausting day.

Athletics

I am the team leader of my school's football club. Every Wednesday we hold a football match among classes, and sometimes we represent our school in competitions with other schools. We have won many championships and I have been well-known as the best player at school.

Awards

In February 2018, I participated in the FEUTURE National Business Challenge held in Shanghai. It is the best-known business simulation activity in China. Meanwhile, it was an opportunity for youngsters who have a great interest in undertaking commerce as a future career. Competitors were selected from scores of high schools around China, and winners were to be named the most promising business talents. As the leader of my school team, which consisted of six members, I acted as CEO of our simulating company. Our task was to purchase products from the manufacturers, and with well-designed packaging, to sell them to the referees, who acted as consumers. It was not an easy job for high school students who have little knowledge of business operations. To tackle this assignment, our team made specific business plans, which included compiling a product introduction, setting appropriate pricing, and applying marketing strategies. After the business plan had been worked out, we proceeded to the next step, that is, to promote the sale of our product to the referees. We displayed a well-prepared presentation to introduce our product, emphasizing its advantages, and emphasizing its competitive price. In this process, we also practiced our communication and negotiating skills, applying some creative ideas. We also took good after-sale service into consideration. Our team successfully sold a total of eight products with a high profit. To our satisfaction, our team stood out among the whole teams and won the second prize in this competition.
