Hi! My name is Brooke Hoppstock-Mattson and I am a PhD student in the Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences Department at the University of British Columbia. I am advised by Dominique Weis and Evgeny Pakhomov. This is my first semester living in Vancouver, and I am the Teaching Assistant of EOSC 270, taught by Brian Hunt.

My background is in environmental geology. Before coming to UBC, I worked for the State of Kentucky to help remediate contamination from underground storage tanks. I attained my bachelor's degree in Geology with a minor in Environmental Science from Hope College in Holland, MI. Undergraduate research at Oregon State University played an important role in my career as it helped me discover my interest in biogeochemical cycles and bioindicators while working with Alaskan moss samples. I am is interested in biogeochemical research that involves metal isotope systems in the environment, and am currently working with bee honey and fish samples as bioindicators to measure and understand lead (Pb) in Vancouver, B.C.
