About me

Hello! My name is Angelica Ang, and I am a third year student reading a Double Major in Life Sciences and Public Health at the National University of Singapore (NUS). I am here at the University of British Columbia (UBC) on student exchange this Winter Term 2! An area of study I am interested in is One Health[1], a concept which recognizes that the health of humans, animals and the environment are interconnected, and inextricably intertwined. It draws the link between our planet, which is rapidly changing due to factors such as climate change, and the spread of zoonotic disease across space and time. The health of the marine ecosystem, which is the focus of EOSC270, may also be studied using a One Health lens — for instance, warming waters may trigger heightened pathogenesis of temperature-sensitive coral pathogens, resulting in coral bleaching. As corals are keystone species in the environment, this may lead to many trickle-down effects on other organisms in the food web.

Aside from my academic interests, some of my hobbies include reading, photography and going for jogs/runs in my free time.
