Interesting read on the darkest subject
Hello. I enjoyed your work on research of sterilization of North American Indigenous Women. It is horrifying to think that the practice was being done just fifty years ago. As I am from South Korea, I did not know about this vile practice that Canadian government carried out to, essentially, commit a genocide. Even though institution no longer carries on the policies of eugenics, it is chilling to know that some doctors still continue the practice. This is a perfect example of how past discrimination leads to the continued suffering of those who are discriminated and marginalized.
I believe the format of references could have been done better. I know that CBC and the guardian are news sources, but I am unable to discern the academic sources. Also, the UBC proxy server link can be a barrier to non-UBC faculty/students. Hyperlinking ideas could have served you better in conveying your message. If you had linked "eugenics movement," people who are unfamiliar with such a practice could have gotten a better understanding of the horror that it truly is. As well, if you linked the Canadian legislation that promoted and abolished eugenics, it would have made your page more convincing.
Overall, your contribution was informative on the subject that is rarely discussed on Indigenous relations. I knew about residential schools, but not the practice of eugenics. Thank you for your article, and have a great winter break!
