Hey everyone! Attached is my Host Immune Response summary! Please let me know if you can't view it! I couldn't attach it as a PDF or PowerPoint so I uploaded it to Wiki - once you click on the file you'll have to click on the PDF link again to view the slides! File:Pathology 417 - Case 1.pdf
Hello PATH 417! Sorry for my late submission. Please see my concise summary of the Host Immune Response for this case. Link to file: https://wiki.ubc.ca/File:DSutherland_Path417_Salmonella_ImmuneResponse_Poster.pdf
Also, some notes to supplement some of the statements made in the poster: 1) The specialized morphology of M-cells is NOT a consequence of infection with Salmonella. However, this structure is likely contributing to its permissive quality, representing a leak in the otherwise tight immunological barrier of the epithelium. Perhaps the number an individual’s M cells may contribute to their susceptibility to infection with Salmonella. 2) B and T lymphocytes can also be activated (in)directly, in absence of APC interaction. (Through MHC-1 on epithelial cells or through TLR signalling) 3) Evidence shows that in many instances a diverse gut microbiome can prevent colonization of Salmonella. However, a specific causal-relationship with an individual or set of bacterial species has yet to be demonstrated.
