comment on LGBTQ in South Korea

The wiki page on LGBTQ in South Korea demonstrates the societal position of the people who identify themselves as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer. While the wiki page advocates for acceptance and accommodation of people with these identities, it is crucial to delve into this matter and flash out the reasons behind these “abnormal” occurrences. Regarding heteronormativity, it is clear that people who are not heterosexual (LGBTQ) are abnormal and therefore disregarded. However, as the page attempts to illustrate, there is no clear connection between the Japanese dominance and the prohibition of LGBTQ status in South Korea. In line with the signs of anti-LGBTQ sentiments, the page only states 6-month conviction of soldier who was transsexual. Though it cites infringement of human rights of people who subscribe to LGBTQ status, it does not give more information on what is going specifically in South Korea. There are more prejudices LGBTQ people face in South Korea apart from imprisonment.

Content-wise, the wiki page is well written as its prose is clear and concise. Also, there are no grammatical errors that are identifiable. It also contains a list of verifiable references at the end of the page. However, the reference list is not consistent with any conventional writing style. It consists only of websites with which the information was obtained. A standard reference should include the author, year of publication, the title of the book and, publisher, website (if provided), among other things. Besides, the page has the two headings; signs of progress and conclusion, which are just blank instead of containing some information. In matters intersectionality, the page demonstrates how people who subscribe to different sexual orientation especially the LGBTQ, are subjected to discrimination. However, it fails to bring out other aspects of intersectionality such as gender, race, and social identities, among others.

I must publicly clarify that this is not the definition of heternormativity. Heteronormativity is the analysis of how heterosexuality is naturalized and those outside the norm are positioned as abnormal. This comment is very othering to LGBT people and sentiments that discriminate against LGBT people are not acceptable in this class.

To all those you are in this class who are LBGT, it is not okay with me that you/we are called abnormal and you in no way need to justify your existence within your work.
