Great topic
This is a great topic. I think you provide great insight when you talk about the problems of just focusing on the negative things that have been done to Indigenous people in this country. There needs to be a celebration of the culture as well. One area that frustrates is statistics talking about poor educational outcomes for Indigenous people. The problem is these outcomes are in reference to the dominant education system--an education system that has played a string role in the oppression of Indigenous people over the course of history. As you argue that education system needs to include positive content. When minorities see their culture presented positively, it enhances their confidence and their ability to learn. I also think that the system has to fundamentally change so that it includes alternative ways of knowing, including Aboriginal ways. Some statistics about educational attainment would help support the argument about the how the current system fails Indigenous youth in so many ways.
