Really interesting discussion on Chinese immigration to Canada! I found an interesting, and horrifying, reading on Canada's incentives to push for the head tax.

Enakshi Dua's "Exclusion through Inclusion: Female Asian migration in the making of Canada as a white settler nation" has a lot of great information that I think you should check out. Dua sheds light on how fear of miscegenation is tied to race science, which was especially relevant to lawmaking in the first wave of Chinese migration, as the white Canadians were afraid that Chinese men were going to intermarry and create what John A MacDonald lovingly calls a "mongrel race" of mixed race Chinese-Canadians. (Canada, House of Commons. Debates, 1887, p. 642) (he was a really horrible guy)
