I agree that Subject Choice would be a more parsimonious Dependent Variable as opposed to Faculty Choice - we cannot account for the fact that different universities have different Faculty programs/quality of teaching etc. whereas specific Degrees are more standardized because the scope of study is more focused towards a particular profession. From your last two proposed questions, I gather we can formulate a question with regards to studying the relationship between Financial Stability and the Pursuit of Post-graduate Degrees.
