Skin Bleaching - post-colonial ideals of beauty

Hi Ritual,

First of all, learning about Kenya and how past British colonial rule negatively impacted the culture and people for so long, even after the British left was very informative. For your final Wiki submission, I think you need to add more sections and create a CONTENT listing that includes each sub-heading. What I found most disturbing about the information you researched and wrote about is the "skin bleaching" practice, which can be easily traced back to the British rule and colonialism's concept of beauty. I have seen images of Kenyan women and many of them are very beautiful, in their own way, but also very dark skinned. It is a grave injustice that so many Kenyan women (and men I'm assuming) think that the best way to be beautiful is to bleach their beautiful skin. Most of these types of artificial bleaching treatments use strong chemicals which are no doubt very bad for their health and their skin.
