Instructions for connecting to the lab server

Applying for Access

Please submit an IT help form at Faculty of Applied Science - IT Help Form (ubc.ca) to request access to \\files.ubc.ca\team\MECH\SIMPL


Connection Requirements

Either your computer needs to be physically connected to MECH LAN, or you will need to VPN into myvpn.ubc.ca (look up UBC vpn instructions if needed).


Mapping

On your Windows workstation/laptop:

(1) simply map the share \\files.ubc.ca\team\MECH\SIMPL to your system (look up map network drive). In the process of mapping, select K: in drive drop box if it's available and check the option: Connect using different credentials if your computer is not in EAD domain.

(2) for credentials, enter EAD\yourcwl as username and your cwl password as password.

For Macs: you need to mount the volume using this path: smb://files.ubc.ca/team/MECH/SIMPL.

MECH account: please send an email to facilities@mech.ubc.ca, cc Lyndia, and request access to the MECHsimpl server, providing your CWL info.

If MECH IT account has been created but not registered: it needs to be registered before you can do the 'mapping'.

(1) log onto https://account.mech.ubc.ca using your CWL ID and password

(2) click on 'Register' button and read the terms and conditions given followed by clicking 'I Accept'

(3) click 'Update' button to ensure the backend system is in sync

(4) you will need to set your 'Windows' password (your CWL password will not work)

(5) scroll down your account page to the 'Windows' section and click 'Set Password'

(6) enter your password and verify and then click 'Submit' (cannot remember the actual button but is something similar!!)

(7) again click 'Update' button to ensure the backend system is in sync

(8) you can now 'Logout'
