Artist Biography

Patty Chang is a video and performance artist who was formally trained in painting and sculpture. She is well known for her video performances as she uses her body as a main medium. Her work composes of examining stereotypes and cultural myths.[1] She appears in most of her work as the use of her body raises questions of contemporary gender issues in Asian and Western culture.[2] Currently, Chang lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Artworks

Chang’s work focuses on the objectification especially in art history and popular culture. In particular, she challenges popular female stereotypes by pushing the standard extremes. Chang achieves so by utilizing her body in amusing and humorous ways. For example, she has been impersonating the identity of contortionists, sex workers, and legendary street fighter Bruce Lee in her work. [3]
