Formal Analysis

Orb 7 consists of an animated image depicting a completely black background with a rounded figure, which resembles a letter “o” in a silvery color. Around this circular figure there is a sort of aura that changes color from hot pink, to purple, to blue and moves around the circle. This particular figure is replicated both vertically and horizontally along the screen.

Related Works

Orb 7 is part of the WALLPAPERS online catalogue featuring others artists animated images and as most of these works, it is part of a set of images. Orb 7 is the seventh image in a series of ten images that show similar patrons of circular figures with different colors except for the last one, Orbe in Cube, which is as its name says, a cubic form. [1]

Exhibition

Orb 7 and the other patterns of the series are presented both online and offline. In the digital catalogue each animated image is displayed full-screen and has its own URL to view it.

The offline version is an exhibition that takes place in a specific location and the patterns are projected in large scale onto a wall creating “wallpapers”. [2]

The online catalogue is a permanent “exhibition”, while the offline is up for a determined amount of time. Without a doubt the ways in which the works are presented have a different impact on the viewer. Looking at the patterns on a computer screen engages the viewers in a much more intimate relationship with the piece by having it very up close in a small scale and in a private place. On the other hand, the large-scale portrayal of the patterns gives them a monumental sense, they seem more imposing and one could even say more important for being put in a gallery and not just in a web site accessible to anyone with a computer.
