Miss Plastic Korea

From UBC Wiki

In 2013, the term Miss Plastic Korea was dubbed by a number of global online forums, such as Reddit and Jezebel, to mock South Korea’s plastic surgery obsession that has left all the national beauty pageant contestants looking the same.

Miss Korea

Overview

Miss Korea is South Korea’s representative beauty pageant which focuses on the contestants’ feminine perfection, as well as intelligence or talents. In order to compete at Miss Korea, contestants must win their respective local beauty contests.

The rules of the competition include the age range and marital status. Women who are at least 18 and under 27 years old, and have never been married or pregnant are eligible to register for both regional and national contests. Potential contestants are judged on makeups and clothing standards as well.

The first place winner which is Jin (진) is crowned the title of Miss Korea and earns an opportunity to compete in Miss Universe (citation). Also, there are two 2nd-place winners “Sun (선)”, and four 3rd-place winners “Mi (미)”. Two of these six contestants can participate in either Miss International or Miss Earth but the women who have higher English proficiency levels are more likely to be selected and compete in the global beauty pageants. This year on July 8th, Miss Korea celebrated its 60th anniversary and Jin-Sol Kim was crowned Miss Korea 2016.

The winners often participate in both national and global organizations to engage with issues regarding all types of areas such as environment, economy, politics, society, and entertainments and promote developmental strategies.
