Library:TLEF Consultations
When developing or reviewing an FL-TLEF application, it can be difficult to know when consulting and partnering with the Library can add to the overall success of the project. The Library offers expertise in developing and implementing processes to serve a wide range of activities, including: preservation, digitization, research instruction, digital literacy development, and content curation. When reviewing an application, there are several ways to "flag" when the project should involve library staff and resources. The following outlines a few examples of project needs that can be developed into a collaboration with the Library. If your project mentions these types of needs, a consultation with Library would be an excellent first step in further development.
Curated collection of instructional resources from the Library, open source sites, or UBC developed |
Findability of a curated collection using metadata categorization |
Digitization of a collection or resources (e.g. photographs, text, audio/visual) |
Archival materials requiring preservation |
Standardized location for content developed by students and faculty |
Expectation that students complete a research intensive project or assignment |
Open access to material created by faculty or students for a class |
The use of software for the development of course materials by faculty or staff |
The best way to ensure the project is taking full advantage of the services and supports available at the Library is to book an consultation with the Flexible Learning Team The team will assist with the following for all FL-TLEF applications:
- Initial library needs assessment for the project
- Suggested library involvement, including: program development, collections, staffing, and liaison supports
- Outline of potential costs associate to the Library's involvement
- Identification of Library partners for project development and implementation
