Guidelines for Library Carousel items

Glenn Drexhage receives, edits and selects items for inclusion in the carousel and provided input for the guidelines. There are six items on the library carousel at any one time. Most items appear for 2-4 weeks, however some will stay up longer if they are of high relevance to users, e.g. copyright

  • Submit items to Glenn 1-2 weeks in advance.
  • Glenn can usually include one item per month from TLAC. To include additional items, check first if he can include it.
  • Items with broad appeal and that are timely for users are best.
  • Use clear, plain English (no jargon if possible).
  • Provide content either as a write-up or as bullet points for Glenn to write up.
  • Include a photo or other visual relating to the topic and provide a credit. UBC’s Library photostream on Flickr is a good source for photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ubclibrary/ Horizontal images are better. Images will be cropped to 420px by 256px.
  • Optionally, create a one liner heading for the theme or topic that is catchy and will appear below the picture. Alternatively, Glenn can create one for you.
  • Glenn will edit the piece and then send it on to be posted.
  • Add the write up to the TLAC wiki so it can be reused in future terms. If relevant, also consider sending the item to Stephanie Janzen for the digital signage at Koerner and IKBLC.
