Microform Collections

Koerner Library has many microform collections where the individual titles are not listed in the catalogue. Select the Microforms Major Collections List for a complete list of large collections. If you require assistance finding microforms in your subject area, please use the Research Guides, contact the specialist librarian for your subject, or ask for assistance at the service desk on Level 3 (Entrance Level) of Koerner Library.

Printing Microforms

Koerner Library owns 4 microfiche/microfilm printers, 1 microcard printer, and 1 microfiche duplicator.

Scanning Microforms

Digital copies may be made from microfilm or microfiche. This use of the scanners is available free of charge to UBC Library cardholders or patrons with guest access. Scans can be emailed, burned to a CD, or save on a USB storage device. Daily use of the scanners is restricted to two non-consecutive one-hour slots.

Borrowing Microforms

Most microfilm reels may be borrowed for 1 week. Some microfilm content may not be borrowed due to high use (e.g. the last 10 years of major newspapers – Canadian newspapers, New York Times, etc.). Microfiche may not be borrowed but can be duplicated using the services listed above.

Assistance with using Microforms

Microform equipment is available for use during Koerner Library Hours of Operation. If you have not used the microform collection and/or equipment before, please visit the at the service desk on Level 3 (Entrance Level) of Koerner Library for assistance.
