Why Search for Books?

A great way to start your research is to search for books and eBooks on your research topic. They often have general background information and are easier to understand than journal articles which are written to examine a narrower, more specified question.

What is Summon?

Summon is a search engine that provides a single starting point to find and access the majority of the UBC Library collections. It's the best tool for finding books in the UBC Library collection. Summon can be found in the search box on the library website under the default "General" tab.

Summon isn't just for books!

Although Summon is the best tool for book searching, it can be used to search for other materials within the UBC Library collections as well including scholarly journals and articles, newspaper articles, dissertations and theses, videos, maps, manuscripts, music scores, digitized items, and more!
