Access Information

Summary

Access-small.png The Asian library is quite accessible to wheelchair-users. Asian Centre’s main floor washrooms are wheelchair accessible.

Parking
There is no designated parking for people with disabilities immediately adjacent to the building. Use the visitor parking lot off West Mall or Fraser River Parkade, both of which include parking for people with disabilities. Assigned parking is available through UBC Parking and Transportation, at user request.

Building and Library entrance
The Asian Centre is a sunken building surrounded by gravel paths and gardens. To get there in a wheelchair, take the concrete path from West Mall (behind the Institute of Asian Research). Enter the Asian Centre through the heavy double doors. Push button swing door openers are available for these doors, but not via the back doors of the building. Once inside, you will see the library on the right.

Elevator
An elevator is available behind the Reference Desk on the main floor. While snug, it can accommodate most wheelchairs, and provides access to both the upper and lower floors.

Library catalogue and computers
The main floor public workstation is at seated height. There are also three public workstations on the lower floor, but these are designed for standing access.

Photocopiers
Photocopiers / print stations are available on the main and upper floors.

Bookstacks
Collections are housed on the upper and lower floors of the library. There should be no obstructions between the stacks, and the shelves are widely spaced to ensure wheelchair accessibility.

Washrooms
The public washrooms on the main floor of the Asian Centre are wheelchair accessible.
