A South African night / by Rachel Isadora

Summary

This picture book contrasts the daytime activities of people in Johannesburg, South Africa to the nighttime activities of animals two hundred miles away in Kruger National Park. As well, the urban environment of the city is contrasted to the wildness of the park. Children will likely be fascinated with this ‘other world’ that exists outside of the human world.Watercolor paints very effectively show the beauty of South African nights. Warm colours are used for the daytime illustrations, cool colours for the nighttime illustrations, and brilliant shades of pinks and purple for dawn and dusk.
