AK / Dickinson, Peter
Summary
Peter Dickinson's imaginary African country of war-torn Nagala is strikingly similar to contemporary Africa. Paul, a guerrilla fighter at 12 years old, experiences many horrors when a military coup occurs, after a time of relative peace, and he is forced to flee into the open countryside to avoid enemy soldiers who seek his life. But first he must try to save the life of his adopted father who has been jailed in the coup. Although he has many obstacles in his way he is successful .(His problem-solving strategies are so over the top that the reader sometimes has to suspend belief.)
