From UBC Wiki

Basics:

All printers are Ricoh Machines.

Locations:

  • Four colour printers are located on the 3rd floor:
    • Two are visible from the CLC desk, in front of the entrance to the Heritage Core.
    • Two are located in the MAA library, in front of the Circulation desk.
  • Three printers are located on the 2nd floor, close to the desktop computers and Ike’s.
    • There are two black and white printers (closest to Ike's) and one colour printer.
      • Colour print jobs will not show up on the black and white machines.

Details:

Printer Type 1: Colour Printers

Important features for troubleshooting

Fig. 1: The various parts of a RICOH-brand colour printer found in IKBLC

“Cover”: There are three main “covers” to this printer (one on the side, one on the front, and one on the top). Each “cover” covers different parts of the intricate machinery in the printer, although error messages will just call all of them “cover". See Figure 1.

  • Side Cover: printing machinery (this is where the paper goes from the paper trays to the output tray)
    • Common location for paper jams (called “paper misfeed” on error messages)
  • Front Cover: toner
  • Top Cover: Scanning machinery

“Bypass Tray”: Usually used when printing on special paper (not loaded in a normal paper tray). Paper might end up getting stuck here in case of paper jams.

Restart Button/Kill Switch: Use this button to turn the printer on/off.

Serial no. info etc.: This is where you can find information about the printer’s unique serial number (used when communicating with Ricoh), model number, name (this is used within UBC), and the contact information for the Ricoh service centre.

Paper Trays

See Figure 2. The paper size of each tray is written beneath each tray name.

Printer Type 2: BW Printers

Important features for troubleshooting

The layout of the black and white printers on the 2nd floor is similar to the colour printers, although there are notable differences in the precise location of some features on the printer. See Figure 3.

Paper Trays

Instead of having 5 paper trays like the colour printers, the black and white printers on the 2nd floor only have 3 trays (one try for every paper size).
