Before you begin… Breathe. Take your time. If you’re calm, the patron will be calm, too :)
The Basics
- Web print (printing from personal computer) - is available on Pay for Print
- Pricing: 7c / regular b/w page; 40c / regular colour page
- If you are using Pay for Print from your laptop (aka Web print / payforprint.ubc.ca), you must select one of the library printers [Central\ in the list of printers]. You have eight options:
- Central\BW-11x17-Duplex: black and white, 11x17, double-sided
- Central\BW-11x17-Single: black and white, 11x17, single-sided
- Central\BW-Letter-Duplex: black and white, letter (8.5x11), double-sided
- Central\BW-Letter-Single: black and white, letter (8.5x11), single-sided
- Central\Colour-11x17-Duplex: colour, 11x17, double-sided
- Central\Colour-11x17-Single: colour, 11x17, single-sided
- Central\Colour-Letter-Duplex: colour, letter (8.5x11), double-sided
- Central\Colour-Letter-Single: colour, letter (8.5x11), single-sided
- (Patrons should choose the 11x17 queues if they want to print in A3 (and letter size for A4): we do not use ISO paper sizes in North America)
- If you don’t choose one of the above central queues from this list, the documents:
- Will automatically print (won’t hold the document in the print queue);
- Will be charged to the patron’s account;
- Will be difficult to find since we don't know what printer they were sent to.
- Once you select one of these print options, you will be prompted to upload your document. Note that patrons cannot upload a document to Pay for Print that is over 15 MB.
- Upon successful upload of your document it will read "Held in a Queue". Sometimes it can take a few minutes for a print job to appear in a queue to print after submission.
- Go swipe their card at any Library printer to have it print.
- If a patron is having problems printing a PDF or form document that includes their information on the form, possible short term solutions include:
- Taking a screen shot of each page and printing as JPEGS;
- Using an online pdf converter to change the file to something else (Word doc or JPEG).
- Patrons from the Okanagan campus are unable to use Pay for Print; they must purchase and register a guest card (i.e. buy a print card from our machine).
- The online accounts of Okanagan students are not connected to the Pay for Print system, and they cannot top up their account using our system either.

Guest Card Best Practices
- Do not recommend students get Guest Print Cards until ALL other options are exhausted. Recommend students link their Pay for Print to their Student Cards. Guest Print Cards for students are the last-resort option.
- For patron privacy, if you are getting patrons to log in using our desk computers, use private mode on the browser. Remember to close the window between sessions.
