Desk Downtime Tasks

  • Do the rounds checklist;
  • Is any furniture blocking aisles or exits?
  • Do we have enough handouts?
  • Has the printer been filled with paper and toner?
  • Clean the computer screens at the desk or in the heritage core;
  • Dust the troughs behind the computers on the desks;
  • Is there anything that is out of order that needs a sign or a ticket?
  • Are any desk supplies low (if so, fill out CLC Housekeeping spreadsheet on the blog. Check for:
    • Batteries;
    • Sticky notes;
    • Tape;
    • Staples;
    • Pens.
  • Check that staplers are loaded and hole punches have been emptied. Check for and clear any staple jams;
  • Are all personal belongings put away?
  • Clean the desk and surrounding area (wipe down and dust);
  • Check for item bags that need to be replaced (writing is rubbing off, bag has holes, labels are in bad shape, etc.) Give these to Program Assistant OR ask for supplies to replace them yourselves;
  • Go through scrap paper to shred any confidential information;
  • Make sure all pulications and handouts are stocked, if not ask Program Assistant to print more;
  • Check the webmail account (respond to tickets, organize emails);
  • Read the CLC blog for new info OR add solutions to common problems you notice;
  • Check learningcommons.ubc.ca for new posts, events, etc.;
  • Check the Irving K Barber Learning Centre website.

A note about the desk phone: If the phone is lying flat and not upright like it is supposed to, do not try to pry the stand to its original position. There is a button on the right hand side of the phone that sticks out. Pressing that button will drop the stand down from the flat position into a standing one.
