Hypothesis:

  • Traditional models relying on aid is not effective and has negative impacts
  • Development requires substantial change in the way society functions
  • Enterprises which are socially conscious can be an alternative
  • International development is an interdisciplinary field

A Project at UBC

UBC is particularly strong in the field of international development, environment and international relations. Strong department and large student body has given UBC a chance to execute innovative initiatives. Recently there has been more emphasis on entrepreneurship.

  • Create a group of student from different department to focus on a particular problem
  • This interdisciplinary group come up with solutions in form of a profitable company
  • Implementation of the company and the proposed solution will be studied and recommendations will be given in a "business plan" type document.
  • Best solutions will be selected and will be published so venture capitalist and other entrepreneurs can actually bring ideas to realization
