Educational Resources for International Studies Learning Indigenous Contexts and Histories at UBC is currently developing 8 modules to introduce international students at UBC to learning about Indigenous topics, histories, and relationships. Each module includes several pre-class homework activities to ensure a common starting point, and a foundation of terms and references. We invite you to get a head start on your learning by embarking on the homework activities provided below. They are split into categories depending on how much time you have to dedicate, but we do recommend completing as many as possible. As a non-Indigenous student studying Indigenous topics, it is important to do your homework. We have the responsibility to fill in the gaps in our knowledge and unlearn the unconscious assumptions that were formed before we even decided to begin[1]. We are all at different levels in our foundation of learning, and doing homework gives us the support to all come together to share and discuss while standing on common ground. Through this action, the student has demonstrated their commitment and receptiveness to a new relationship with Indigenous peoples and knowledge.
