For Han Hoogerbrugge Artist see Hoogerbrugge

Hoogerbrugge.com was created by dutch digital artist Han Hoogerbrugge. The site is an interactive collection of animations that all include artist Han Hoogerbrugge in a variety of situations; mostly unrealistic and fantastical. There are 90 animations total, spanning creation between March 7, 1998 to August 27, 2001. [1]

Technical Aspects

The 90 animations within Hoogerbrugge.com are all created via Java. [1] Upon entering the site, you see a window with Han sleeping on a couch with hearing static in the background. The left side has a list of 10-99 broken up in divisions of 5. Clicking on each division will open 5 new animations that all respond to the movement of your mouse, or clicking of the mouse.

Conceptual Apects

Hoogerbrugge explains that the use of himself as the subject of the pieces is because they reflect his subconscious, his dreams, his experiences, etc. [2] This constant evaluation of the self portrait is a constantly self-referential task in which the artist is constantly exploring himself and inviting the viewer to do so with him, on a deeper and deeper scale the further you delve into the work. The 90 different animations show a large depth to his persona and explore various aspects of who he is. Many of the animations being childish, or silly, make the website more accessible to a wider range of people, as his animations are so universal.
