Summary

Description
English: Four snapshots during a simulation of the explosion phase of the deflagrationto-detonation model of nuclear-powered Type Ia supernovae. The images show extremely hot matter (ash or unburned fuel) and the surface of the star (green). Ignition of the nuclear flame was assumed to occur simultaneously at 63 points randomly distributed inside a 128-km sphere at the center of the white dwarf star. Image: Argonne National Laboratory
