Inquiry II

Rationale:

Develop an Inquiry question -> Create a framework for research -> develop a research plan to implement in the Long Practicum -> Gather data in the Long Practicum -> Present findings in Inquiry III.

We wanted Inquiry II to be as applicable to the Long Practicum as possible. We felt that by developing a question and having the time to create a framework for research, it would set us up to do active research in the classroom. Inquiry III would then be reporting the results, and allow us the opportunity to modify our units based on our findings.

Objectives:

Our idea for the Inquiry II Curriculum will be to take a Unit that we plan to teach in our long practicum, and apply an inquiry question/perspective in which to teach it.

An example of this would be to take a Unit on Shakespeare, and take the inquiry question of the struggles of teenagers in understanding/translating between Early Modern English to Modern English.

The 3 weeks of inquiry would be spent on researching on this topic/question.

Readings:

The readings will be self-directed and students will choose the literature that best applies to their inquiry question. The Project Adviser can provide optional readings that would help us focus our inquiry questions. (i.e: Some of the readings on the original syllabus)

Assessment and Evaluation:

Students will present their inquiry question and research to the class. During the course, students will touch base with the Project Adviser and the class.

(Basically Part A of the original curriculum)

Students will then take their research to the classroom during their long practicum and gather data to present to the class in Inquiry III.

Meetings for the class.

Students and Project Adviser will meet up as a group to touch base on the progress of their research. The rest of the class will be self-directed study. This will also give students the opportunity to look at/read the texts/subjects they will be teaching in their units.
