Documentation:Wimba Voice Tools/Setup Wizard
Setup Wizard
If you will be using any of the Wimba Voice Tools for the first time, it's recommended that you run the Setup Wizard at least once in order to check if your computer is ready for use.
The link to the setup wizard is usually found at the bottom of any Wimba Voice Tool user interface or just click on this link:
http://ubcvoice.wimba.com/ubcvoice/wizard/launcher.jsp.
You will go through a 5-step process with instructions on what you need to do.
Step 1: Java
Wimba Voice Tools uses Java, a programming language, to run on a browser. Step 1 will check if your browser has the necessary scripts to run the application. If not, you will be prompted to install them.
If the problem persists, please use a different browser.
You will be automatically taken to the next test page when it's completed.
Step 2: Signed Applet
Each of the tools under Wimba Voice uses applets or embedded applications on your web browser. Step 2 will attempt to verify if you want to run the applet on your computer.
In some cases when you click Next, a pop-up window appears asking you to allow the applet to run. Click Always or Run to allow audio to run on your computer.
Step 3: Connectivity
Setup Wizard will test your Internet speed.
You will be automatically taken to the next test if your Internet speed are okay to work with any of the Wimba Voice Tools.
Step 4: Playback
You will be asked to test the speakers or any output device you will be using with Wimba Voice Tools.

If you want to change the output device, click on the small square box on the right-side of the Audio Player. A menu will appear where you can choose the device you want to use. Your choice will be denoted by a check mark beside it.
Take note that you can always change these settings later either by going through the Setup Wizard again or by going to the Settings page of each tool.
Step 5: Recording
You will be asked to test the microphone or any input device you will be using with Wimba Voice Tools.
Click the Record button and start recording any test audio. When you're finished just click Stop and then Play to hear what you have recorded.
If you are able to record properly, click Next to continue.
If you want to change your input device, click on the small square box on the right-side of the Audio player. A menu will appear where you can choose the device you want to use. Your choice will be denoted by a check mark beside it.
