Getting Started with Wimba’s Live Classroom

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Live Classroom Basics, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate the classroom environment
  • Create a Live classroom and add content
  • Present content 'live' within a classroom
  • Create archives for later viewing

What is Live Classroom?

Wimba Live Classroom is virtual classroom software that combines state-of-the-art interactive technologies such as voice, application sharing, polling and whiteboarding. It enables facilitators to add greater interaction to their online delivery and to foster better communication with participants. Organizations can also use it for online meetings, briefing sessions, presentations, interviewing potential employees, conference sessions and professional development events.

1. Handson - Creating Your Own Live Classroom

  • Log into WebCT Vista training server with the ID/password provided you.
  • In the BUILD TAB, click Add Content Link
  • From the dropdown menu, select Live Classroom. Click Create Live Classroom button.
  • Give a title to your new Live Classroom, example FongFongLee Office Hours or History203B Lectures and click Continue
  • Click the Create New Room radio button >> accept all the default settings and click Save at the bottom of the page

Your new Live Classroom has been created!



2. Handson - Uploading Content into Live Classroom

  • In the TEACH TAB, click on your new Live Classroom >> click on Add & Manage Content
  • Click Add & Management Content again
  • Click the New Folder button (at the far right) >> and a give a name to the new folder , example Week 1 Lecture or Interview Material >> click on Create
  • Click on the new folder >> click Browse >> locate powerpoint presentation on your computer >> and double-click to upload
  • UNCHECK the box beside "Display this content in the eBoard"
  • Click Add
  • Click Save Changes button at the button of the screen. You should now see along list of all your powerpoint slides and their titles. ***Note: Check under the TARGET column, that all will display in the Content Frame.
  • Exit out of that screen by clicking the Red X at the top right of the screen
  • You will be back at the Add & Management Content screen again



3. Launching Your Live Classroom

  • Click the Enter This Room button.
  • Assuming you have already run the WIZARD, click the small print CLICK HERE at the bottom of the page.
  • When your live classroom as launched, click the maximize button at the top right to open it up.
  • In the Presenter Console, click the drop down menu and select your folder and click the GO button.
  • Click a slide and watch as it displays in the Content Frame
