What are RSS Feeds and how does UBC support them?

A Rich Site Summary, or an RSS feed is a format for delivering regularly changing web content from multiple web-sources to you via a newsreader like Bloglines, iGoogle or Netvibes. You'll need to set up your reader and subscribe to the feeds you think would be most useful to you. Most UBC pages allow you to subscribe. For example, UBC’s Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology and the Learning Commons sites include RSS subscriptions to ensure you can stay up-to-date with campus news, as it is posted.

What can I add to my RSS Feed?

  • News: campus, regional, and world-wide news feeds to keep you up to date on the latest developments. Click here to subscribe to the UBC Campus News feed
  • Blogs: RSS feeds are a great way to keep up with your favorite blogs. Instead of having to check the blog page to see if there are any new posts, use an RSS and have the new posts come to you by subscribing and having them appear on your RSS feed. Click here to subscribe to UBC’s Blog Squad
  • Events: RSS feeds allow you to keep up to date with changing details or locations of social and campus events by subscribing to the event page. Click here to subscribe to seminars and speakers on campus run throughout the year or here for on campus skill building workshops
  • Web pages: Subscribe to specific web pages, such as the Learning Common’s study toolkits to be notified of any new information. Click here to subscribe to the Learning Common’s Student Toolkit page
