Vacuum Oven Dryer
  1. Please obtain proper training from the FNH teaching lab technician Imelda Cheung (Imelda.Cheung@ubc.ca) prior to using the vacuum oven dryer.
  2. Turn on the power (green button) and the temperature should be set at 70oC (setting 3).
  3. Place pre-weighed samples in the main chamber.
Samples should always be handled by tongs as fingerprints will add weights to the foil dish.
  4. Close the chamber door tightly.
  5. The Vacuum Valve should remain fully open at all times and need not be adjusted.
  6. The Vent Valve should be fully closed.
  7. Manually plug in the power cord (yellow) to start the vacuum pump.
  8. The vacuum gauge should slowly reach ~ 25 in. Hg.
  9. When drying is complete, unplug the vacuum pump power cord.
  10. Release the vacuum by slowly opening the Vent Valve until vacuum gauge reads zero.
Releasing vacuum quickly may cause loss of samples!
  11. Remove samples and place in a dessicator to cool before weighing.
  12. Turn off the power.
