Documentation:Standard Operating Procedures for Oven

From UBC Wiki

1.  Please obtain proper training from the FNH teaching lab technician Imelda Cheung (Imelda.Cheung@ubc.ca) prior to using the oven.

2.  Check to make sure there is no samples/materials in the oven before operating.

If unknown samples are found in the oven, ASK FOR HELP!

3.  Turn on the oven and set the desired temperature digitally or by adjusting the dial. Do not EXCEED the temperature limits of the oven or it will be damaged.

Thelco: 20 – 200 oC
Fisher Isotemp: 50 - 275 oC
Fisher Isotemp 301: 50 – 150 oC
If unsure, ASK FOR HELP!

4.  Once set, the oven should heat to reach the desired temperature.

It is strongly recommended that you place an oven thermometer to monitor real-time temperature of the oven.

5.  When the temperature stabilized and the heat light goes off, the oven is ready to use.

Please ensure you handle your samples/glassware with oven mitts to prevent scalding!
Write the set temperature of the oven on the dry erase sheet so other users may share if necessary.

6.  You may now place your samples or glassware in the oven.

Always put your samples in a metal tray in case of spills.

7.  When experiment is complete, remove all your samples from the oven and turn off.

If you spill any sample in the oven, immediately notify the FNH teaching lab technician for sanitizing. Failure to do so will result in forbidden usage of the teaching lab facility.
