To make your research practices more open, you should regularly evaluate your work with a focus on openness and transparency. Some of the ways you can move toward making your research more open include:

Before you start:

• Ensure you are discoverable through a robust online researcher profile
• Pre-register your study or write a protocol

During the research process:

• Keep track of your data with version control
• Work with open source tools

At the point of publication:

• Seek out publishers who have open access policies and support open research
• Publish pre-prints
• Share your data and data analysis (when possible and appropriate)
• Produce outputs that speak to the needs of your research partners
