Landing Page

Toolkit/Get Started page structure

Design Pros Cons
Format 1 (Cutting in segments, Video and Resources side by side)
  • Less Scrolling
  • It makes use of the space
  • It can be visually overwhelming when the content is heavy
Format 2 (Similar to Format 1 but Video/infographic on top)
  • It is less visually overwhelming compared to Format 1
  • Big Video
Format 3(Tab format-RECOMMENDED)
  • It is good for pages that are content heavy
  • Less Scrolling
  • The title of the headings has to be short (For example, Why What How)
Format 4 (Tab format 2)
  • It is good for pages that are content heavy
  • Less Scrolling
  • The title of the headings has to be short (For example, Why What how)

Feedbacks on the proposed mockup

  • We can have landing pages for “examples”
  • Open 101 on the Home page can be changed to “Getting Started” instead
  • The template for the toolkit can be applied to “Get Started” as well
  • Landing page can be icon +description,  the secondary landing page can have the picture background like in the live open UBC site
  • Having an Open textbook database on wiki, and inviting site visitors to contribute to the database (with criteria)

Prosed Open UBC Website Architecture Idea

  • Goal of this activity was to sort out existing pages to the new architecture – and see if there are any gaps to it.
  • In the end of the activity, we combined some pages, added resources from the UBC library and indicated gap in resources:
  • Dark green = new pages that can be added to the new open UBC site Orange= Resources from the Library Black = Existing page on the Open UBC site
