Research Commons Graduate Student Peer Services

(aka Koerner Library Research Commons; aka UBC Library Research Commons)

What A grant-funded peer support service for graduate students working on theses/dissertations.
Services Provided Four Services
  1. Thesis Formatting Support : One-on-one appointments and workshops to help with formatting theses and dissertations to Faculty of Graduate Studies specific guidelines. NOTE: staff also provide technical assistance with uploading theses to cIRcle; do not refer upload questions to cIRcle staff.
  2. Citation Management Support
  3. FIREtalks : Interdisciplinary research discussions and exchanges run by graduate students for graduate students. They provide an opportunity for graduate students to share and discuss their own research or ideas relating a significant range of themes.
  4. Statistical Software Support

  • Links to each of the four services are listed on the left hand side of the page.
  • Students can make appointments for a one-to-one consultation using our new online appoint schedule. Accessible under the Consultations tab.
  • For RC Desk/HSS staff purposes, the fall 2013 weekly schedule for appointments will give you an idea of when RC folks are in. However, please keep in mind that this can change week to week if they are attending an RC meeting or teaching a workshop. Please always direct students to review available and book appointments online via Consultation tab.

Whom to Refer To
If Staff not Available If staff not available:

1. Refer patron to website - lots of documentation, guides, workshop materials, etc..

2. Give patron email (research.commons@ubc.ca) to ask question or make an appointment.

3. Show patron the online booking form to make an appointment. This is linked from the RC web site under the Consultations tab.
