Documentation:Excel Guide for LFS Students

From UBC Wiki

Introduction

Some courses require you to have some basic excel knowledge, so this guide's aim is to introduce a beginner level student to excel. Feel free to skip some of the videos if you are already familiar with the subject.

Common Operations Used in Class

Here is a list of some operations that are useful for data manipulation:

  • Data Organization: numeric and date formats (e.g. number digits).
  • Functions.
  • Formulas.
  • Data Summary: count, mean, median, min, max.
  • Pivot tables to automatically summarize large data sets.
  • Graphs: pie chart, bar chart, scatter plot, line graph.
  • Combined bar and line graph.
  • Formatting axis (min, max, major units, decimal places)

This is by no means a comprehensive list, it is just some of the things you might encounter.
