Documentation:Digital Tattoo Student Orientation/Content QA
Note this is Content QA for fall/winter 2016.
Jonathan - please note all pages you have reviewed here. You can keep your own notes on revisions and then just note here when you have completed the revisions. This will comprise the majority of your work over the first few weeks. Let's aim to have the QA done by end Sept.
Note, please go through each page of the website by section and complete the review. If pages check out and do not need revisions - just add OK underneath the heading for that page (in the Review section below. As an example, I added some of our notes on the Homepage as discussed in our first team meeting.
Process for QA (which stands for quality assurance)
QA is REALLY important to us as people from all over the world are using this site, many university libraries link to it and the content is used in educational settings. Along with the usual spelling, grammer stuff, the following aspects are important.
- Alignment: most important thing is alignment between topic, video resource and self assessment. Questions to guide your review of alignment include:
- Does the video reveal the central issues relevant to the topic? If not, note what might be missing and suggestions for improvement. Do this in the review section below.
- Do the self assessment questions provoke personal reflection on the topic AND relate to the content of the video? If not, suggest revisions in review section below.
- Deeper Exploration: Given that the DT resource is intended to open up the issues for reflection (at an entry level), we also need to provide solid reources for a deeper look into the topic - this can include associated news stories or other readings.
- Are there suitable/current and active links in the explore section? If not, add/replace with relevant links. Links are managed through the Digital Tattoo delicious account: https://delicious.com/digitaltattoo. Ask Rie to show you how they are associated to the page.
- If there is a Think Before You Ink section on the Explore page you are reviewing - please make a note of it for updating later.
- Feedback: feedback on assessments should help build understanding and be useful to readers.
- Is the feedback on self assessment questions helpful in building understanding?
- Are cross links or references to other digital tattoo content (or external resources) provided?
- Engagement: in general, when people view the content on the site, we want to provoke thinking/questioning.
- Are questions in Discuss limited to 1 or 2 provocative questions that align with the content and self assessment, but encourage people to share their experiences, perspectives, opinions, etc. ?
Reviewed
I've reviewed the following pages and have taken notes on all potential revisions and further suggestions:
Homepage
- discussed use of Instagram - we will add this as a link in the social media footer on the site. Jonathan will create and manage this - add account details to the passwords on Active Collab for the Digital Tattoo project.
- Rie will report on badges activity (next meeting) and we'll decide how to treat the badges widget on the DT site following that review. Prefer to highlight Twitter if few badge seekers.

Anonymous Browsing
- reviewed -- my concern here is that the video is just way too long. I'm looking for something that we can substitute it with.
- there's not much that looks too professional out there in the way of online privacy tips but this video offers some pretty helpful advice and it's got some intriguing visuals to keep viewers entertained: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTCb7LATvb8
Clickjacking
- reviewed
Protect your mobile
- reviewed -- the 'think' section features all the clickjacking questions. I will reformulate the section to feature questions relating to the content
Outwit Pharming
- reviewed -- the video is the same video as anonymous browsing, focusing on TOR. I don't think this video fits too well with the section as it is immensely long. In my opinion, this one is much better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3hK0PuSkhw -- I tried to embed it but I couldn't get it to show up on the webpage so I just restored the old page. Rie, perhaps you could embed the new video and/or show me how? Also, the explore section is automatically expanded for the page

- reviewed. There's a section in the quiz that asks about online gaming, although we don't have a section on online gaming. I can generate one in the coming weeks if that is something we might be interested in

Learn
Learn Feature: Privacy in the cloud
- reviewed. The video seems a touch dated, here's a decent piece done by CBC National about cloud storage and the celebrity leaks from last year http://www.cbc.ca/player/News/TV+Shows/The+National/Only+in+Canada/ID/2505123548/ It might be a little more relatable to the younger demographic, but I wanted to get your thoughts before I replaced the current video

Revised
- Online Harassment: reformatted the explore section to make the text appear less bulky. Everything else looks good.
- Protect your mobile: the form (think section) referred to the clickjacking form. I found the correct form and replaced it. The page looks good now.
- Outwit identity theft: I edited one of the form questions as it didn't emphasize online identity theft
- Connect Feature: Social Media: I edited some of the forms to update some of the data and fix spelling errors
- File-Sharing: changed video
- Texting apps: changed video
- Learn Feature: Privacy in the Cloud: edited the think section to make it feel a bit more accessible
- Networks for Learning: cleaned up some of the language in the Explore section
- What is a MOOC?: cleaned up some of the language in the Think section
- E-portfolios: there were incosistencies with how 'e-portfolio' is spelt, so I edited accordingly
- The Job Hunt: fixed spelling errors in the explore section; re-embedded the video because it wouldn't start from the beginning
- Managing your online profile: fixed spelling errors in the form section
- Pubished Feature: Bill C-11: Updated some of the facts, edited forms and explore section
- Canadian Copyright Act: edited spelling in the Think section
Considerations for the team
Blog post ideas for start of term:
- Using Twitter for learning: https://www.academia.edu/11977668/A_Little_Bird_Told_Me_Maximizing_Your_Learning_On_Twitter
- Why logging out of public computers is a good idea
- Benefits and risks of using private FB pages for school related discussion.
- Whistler scams: how craigslist ads can ruin your weekend (and your wallet)
Coming up for October:
- Cloud storage - the newest buzzword in online file storage, but poses significant risks to personal data. This could work great for a blog or even offer up its own feature
- open access - how does this relate to your digital identity?
- Bill C-51 - voter's guide (associated streeter video)
- unpublish work in progress blog post once QA review is complete (end Sept.)
