Documentation:Dangerous Machinery

From UBC Wiki

Dangerous Machinery

The machinery itself in candle factories are dangerous. Frayed electrical cords, unguarded machinery and constant loud noise caused by the machines are everyday hazards workers are exposed to during their shifts [1].

Health Impacts

Injuries and accidents are one of the main hazards of working with machinery. Workers can be physically harmed by machinery that is unguarded or get electrocuted due interactions between frayed electrical cords and water [2].

Controls

Substitution Controls

Preventing workers from having direct contact with machines can be a control. Instead of using hands, provide tools or push sticks that workers can use to interact with the machine [3].

Engineering Controls

Install guards and safety devices on machines [3].

Administrative Controls

Fix or eliminate defective equipment as soon as they are detected [3]. Prevent overcrowding of materials and monitor hazard controls effectively [3]. Encourage corrective actions through supervision and education [3].
