Documentation:Connect/Set Adaptive Release for Course Content (How to)

From UBC Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Adaptive Release enables you to set specific conditions or rules on when students can access individual course content.

Examples of adaptive release rules are:

  • A test will only be available between specific dates.
  • A course unit/chapter will only be available after an assignment has been completed

The feature is similar to the Selective Release function in WebCT Vista and can ONLY be applied to Course Content items and Assessments.

This document will show you how to:

  • Set an Adaptive Release rule
  • Create an Advanced Adaptive Release rule
  • Set multiple Advanced Adaptive Release rules

Effective Practices

  • Attach an adaptive release rule to an assessment that allows multiple attempts.
  • Use the Review Status to point students to important course content before proceeding in the course.
  • Go into Student View if the adaptive release rule works.
  • Communicate to students the rules you are using before they can proceed, especially very complex ones.

Video

Watch the video below on how to create and set multiple advanced adaptive release rules:

Set an adaptive release rule

  1. Go into the course content area that contains the item you want.
  2. Hover over the course item you want to set an adaptive release rule to.
  3. Click the facedown arrow beside the item's name.
  4. Click Adaptive Release.
  5. (Optional) In the 1. Date section, set the dates when an item will be available to students.
  6. (Optional) In the 2. Membership, limit the item to specific users or groups.
  7. (Optional) In the 3. Grade, set an activity students need to complete before they see the content item.
  8. (Optional) In the 4. Review Status, require another item to be reviewed before this item will become visible.
  9. Click Submit at the top or bottom of the page.

Once submitted, Enabled: Adaptive Release will appear under the item's name.

Depending on how you've set the adaptive release rule, students will only see it when they've met the conditions you have set. Use the Student View Tool to review your conditions.

Create an advanced adaptive release

Advanced Adaptive Release enables you to create and set multiple conditions before an item is available to students.

Similar to regular Adaptive Release, you can set conditions based on dates, grades and membership.

  1. Go into the course content area that contains the item you want.
  2. Hover over the course item you want to set an adaptive release rule to.
  3. Click the facedown arrow beside the item's name.
  4. Click Adaptive Release: Advanced.
  5. Click Create Rule at the top of the section.
  6. Create a name for the rule.
  7. Click Submit at the top or bottom of the page.
  8. Go to Create Criteria.
Note: The more criteria you use, the more difficult the rule will be.
  9. Choose between Date, Grade and Membership.
  10. Create the settings you need.
  11. Click Submit at the bottom or top of the page.

You can create as many criteria as you need.

Set multiple advanced adaptive release criteria

Once you have created several rules, you can set multiple ones on the same content item. Setting multiple advanced adaptive release criteria provides different pathways for students to reach the same content.

  1. Go into the course content area that contains the item you want.
  2. Hover over the course item you want to set an adaptive release rule to.
  3. Click the facedown arrow beside the item's name.
  4. Click Adaptive Release: Advanced.
  5. Click the boxes beside the rules you want to apply.
  6. Click OK at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
