To control which posts get published and are visible to all the students, set up a moderated forum. All posts in moderated forums are reviewed by a moderator who can either publish the post or return a post with comments to the author.

This document will show how to:

  • Enable forum moderation
  • Access a forum's Moderation Queue
  • Return a post
  • Publish a post

Enable forum moderation

  1. Click on Discussions from the left-hand sidebar course menu
  2. Hover over a forum and click on the face-down arrow that appears beside its name
  3. Click Edit
  4. Go to 3. Forum Settings section
  5. Check the box beside Enable Force Moderation of Posts
    The Force Moderation of Posts' can be found in 3. Forum Settings when you edit a forum.

Access a forum's Moderation Queue

  1. Click on Discussions from the left-hand sidebar course menu
  2. Click Moderate Forum at the top of the screen.
  3. Click "Moderate" next to the post to review them.
    All the posts waiting for moderation will be visible in the Moderation Queue.

Return a post

  1. Click Moderate next to the post.
  2. In the 2. Post Moderation section, select Return if you want the student to edit or change anything with their post. Returned posts are not published.
    You can Return a post to a student for review.
  3. Enter feedback in the message box as to why you returned the post to the author
  4. Click Submit

Publish a post

  1. Click Moderate next to the post
  2. In the Post Moderation section, select Publish
    You can Publish a post immediately to the course.
  3. Click Submit
