The blogs tool allows students to create a shared online diary for classwork This document will show you how to:

  • Create a new blog
  • Set blog details

Create a new blog

  1. To begin, select a content area
  2. Go to Tools at the top of the page
  3. Click Blogs
    Blogs are found in the Tools tab at the top of the page.
  4. At the end of the 1. Create Link: Blog section, click Create New Blog
    The Create New Blog button is at the bottom of the 1. Create Link: Blog section

Set Blog details

  1. In the 1. Blog Information section, enter a name for the blog
  2. Enter instructions for the student on a topic for the blog
  3. In the 2. Blog Availability section, ensure (Yes) is selected.
    Select (Yes) to make the blog available to your students.
  4. In the 3. Blog Date and Time Restrictions, set date and time restrictions for the blog, if desired
  5. In the 4. Blog Participation section, select from the following:
    • Individual to All Students: Students will have their own individual blogs to write in. Other students will be able to read and comment on each other's posts.
    • Course blog: All students will write posts on one blog for the whole course
  6. Select if you would like comments to be posted anonymously
  7. In the 5. Blog Settings section, set if the blog index should be categorized by month or week
  8. Set User settings to allow students to be able to edit and delete their blog entries or comments
  9. If you want the blog to be gradable, select Grade and enter the number of points possible in the 6. Grade Settings section
  10. Click Submit at the top or bottom of the page
