Student Profiles will allow your students to introduce themselves to peers.

Connect enables you to create Student Profiles using Journals, Blog or Discussion Board.

This documentation will show you how to:

  • Choose between Journals, Blog or Discussion Board to create Student Profiles based on your needs.
  • Create Student Profiles in Journals, Blog or Discussion Board.

What are the difference between Discussion Board, Blogs and Journals?

Depending on how you want students to interact with each other, you can decide on which tools you can use to create a Student Profile. The table below compares the features of Journals, Blogs and Discussion Board. They all have different features, which can generate different level of peer interaction.

Create Student Profiles using Discussion Board

  1. Click on Discussion Board which is located under the Course Tools.
    Course Tools is located under Course Management.
  2. You may see several discussion board listed. Select your discussion board with your course ID as the name.
    Select your discussion board with your course ID as the name.
  3. Click on Create Forum.
  4. Beside the Name, type in the title of your Student Profiles. Fill in the instructions if necessary.
  5. Configure Forum Availability and Forum Settings if necessary.
  6. Press Submit. Students will now be able to see and create the Student Profile under Tools > Discussion Board.

Create Student Profiles using Blogs

  1. Click on Blogs which is located under the Course Tools.
    Course Tools is located under Course Management.
  2. Click on Create Blog.
    Create Blog is located on the left.
  3. Beside the Name, type in the title of your Student Profiles. Fill in the instructions if necessary.
  4. Under Blog Participation, check Individual to All Students
    Create Blog is located on the left.
  5. Press Submit. Students will now be able to see and create the Student Profile under Tools > Blogs.

Create Student Profiles using Journals

  1. Click on Journals which is located under the Course Tools.
    Course Tool is located under Course Management
  2. Click on Create Journals.
    Create Journal is located on the left.
  3. Beside the Name, type in the title of your Student Profiles. Fill in the instructions if necessary.
  4. If you want your students to be able to view the Student Profiles, under the Journal Settings, check Permit Course Users to View Journal
    Create Journal is located on the left.
  5. Press Submit. Students will now be able to see and create the Student Profile under Tools > Journal.
