Purpose

This two-day interactive workshop enables you to increase your confidence and try new approaches in any presentation setting. The Presentation Skills Workshop (PSW) is definitely for you if you know you will have to present your research at a conference, or within your department; you might also consider taking the PSW if you are preparing to defend your thesis, or if you are taking part in a job interview.

Following completion of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Plan and organize an effective presentation
  • Become aware of elements that contribute to effective presentation delivery
  • Efficiently structure a short presentation with a limited amount of time.

Process

During the workshop you will deliver 2 short presentations and receive constructive feedback from your peers and the facilitator (who is a trained UBC graduate student). You will also give one or more impromptu presentations following instruction on structuring and preparing for extemporaneous speaking.

Requirements

Due to the interactive nature of this workshop, participants must be comfortable communicating verbally in English. All PSWs run for two days, from 8:30am - 5:00pm and attendance is required for the full time.

Registration Deposit

PSWs require a $60 deposit to confirm your registration. This deposit is refundable upon completion of the workshop. If you have to cancel before the workshop starts or if you are otherwise unable to complete the workshop once it has started, the deposit cannot be refunded. The deposit cannot be transferred to other dates.
