| Hey | 26 | 07:39, 22 January 2015 |
Okay folks, I'm heading home and will be unavailable for the rest of the evening due to religious commitments. I will resume editing and organizing the page early tomorrow morning and adding the final bits of info. Please have it done as soon as possible. Cheers!
Hey Everyone,
It is nice to see the progress that has been made on the final wiki page. I have completed a majority of my work for host damage. It is simply a matter of uploading and editing it.
I have a online midterm tomorrow at 10:00am Vancouver time. After that is complete, I will add my section and work on modifying the framework of the entire page.
I do apologize for the delay in responding.
Thanks!
Hi Armaan, best of luck on your midterm. Once you've added your section, let me know if you'd like me to edit for you as I've been doing with the rest of the case.
If there is anything I can do today let me know. I won't be free this evening.
I think it's all good. Armaan and I will finish up our bit. Thank you for your effort and contribution! Enjoy your weekend!
Hey Alysha,
You've contributed a lot in terms of content so don't worry about it. Enjoy your evening :)
I will start working on the wiki and making modifications.
Atif, if you are available to make format changes at some point today, feel free to some minor changes. Thanks for your help!
Warm Regards,
Armaan
Please post on here from now on :)
Unfortunately the paper didn't detail how the immune response to H. influenzae could cause airway obstruction.
Armaan how do I upload pictures? Also, not sure how the bacterial evasion section is going. If no one has time I can do it tomorrow morning.
For referencing since we are uploading all our own sections it may be best to do the citation like (King et al. 2012) just because number superscript requiring the information being all together and cited. So what referencing style should we do. APA? If anyone needs help I have a referencing software.
Hey Alysha,
There is a tab on the left hand bar called tools. Underneath it, you should see an option called upload file.
Upload your photo of interest and it will give you the code for putting it in the wiki page. Let me know if it works.
Make sure the photo is uploaded on your computer's hardrive
Yeah I can't figure it out. I see it should be saved in a certain format but its not an option for me to save it as that. It is from this paper
Haemophilus influenzae and the lung (Haemophilus and the lung)
Hi team,
Can you designate my role in terms of the question and pathogen? I started compiling information but I noticed my work may be overlapping with Alysha or Atif's
Try following these steps:
- Download or save that image from the paper to your desktop if possible (crucial step)
- upload it on wiki using the upload file tab
- after successful upload, it should give you a prompt with a code for putting it in wiki
I am not sure by what you mean by certain format. Perhaps you could elaborate?
Post here starting Jan 22?
Absolutely
Hey Everyone,
I was reflecting on what Dr. Kelly had told me, and I think that we are taking the right approach by describing outcomes for different pathogens.
I have started the outline for our final answers in wiki. Have a look and let me know what you think. I will complete the host damage section tomorrow and post it into the wiki.
Cheers
Armaan, please bare in mind that most host damage in respiratory infections occurs due to bacterial products as opposed to the host immune response (which is what the question is asking) so don't invest too much time in it.
Based on what Dr. Kelly said to me, we should be focusing on B pertussis, S.Pneumoniae, H. influenzae. Throw all other bacteria out, especially tuberculosis which is miles away from this case definition. Please remember to take her suggestions in the context of my answer to the questions, since her comments point out what is missing only in mine. If you look at my organization of the the immune response question, I gave a general overview of adaptive and innate immunity (defensin and NK need to be expanded), followed by a small section of the responses specific to B. pertussis. I feel writing a small section for the other two pathogens should be sufficient and more organized, allowing the reader to compare the 3 bacteria. I'm willing to write up on H. influenzae. Can someone do S.pneumoniae?
We need to expand on the mechanism aspects of host evasion, which two of you will take the lead on that?
Can we aim to have all research and writing done by noon Friday, leaving enough time for illustrations and formatting? Let's just present on the wiki page or in a word document converted to PDF (easy to format, download and print/save if needed). Let's aim to complete everything by noon Saturday.
Hello Atif,
As mentioned prior, it is easiest to put all the written materi into wiki as paragraphs. You are essentially doubling your work if you are doing it in word. I will look into host damage but given that this is one of four questions, it must still be reasonably detailed and thorough.
Hi Group
I am not sure if we are still waiting on one more entry or not. But we should get started. Seems like there was confusion with this assignment. I believe we were to discuss the immune response of a few pathogens that cause infection in the respiratory system. Before starting I think we should see what pathogens students in the other questions discussed just so we are cohesive. Not sure how we want to divide the work. -Armaan would you mind taking the build of the Wiki case since your response looks well formatted. -I have a software for referencing so once everyone has completed their parts I could put together the document and make sure the referencing is good. I like to reference in AMA cause it is superscript citation.
Alysha
Hey I definitely agree there was some confusion.
I thought it was talking about a general immune response to bacterial pathogens. And other than the last question, the questions seemed pretty general (but I looked at the other case studies and they all ask the same questions so I guess we now know what to say.)
What other roles do you have outlined?
Waldo
Hey guys,
So I thought I had uploaded my answer but it seems I did something wrong (still trying to figure out how to use this thing). If it wasn't for Alysha's connect message I wouldn't have seen this and realized that my answer was the missing one so thanks Alysha :). Can we figure out how we are going to divide up the tasks for the group project. We really should get on it as soon as possible. I would expect that since this is a case study, we were meant to focus on the specific bacteria, unless I'm missing something?
Cheers,
Atif
Because everyone seems rushed do guys want to use a simpler format such as this wiki to present our answer?
Looking for everyone's responses I think we should make a table highlighting some of the stuff for the innate response with citations from the textbook
Then make a table for the adaptive response and how the bacteria may try to evade these responses cause there seems to be quite a bit of recent literature on that.
Have a separate table or response for induced damage from the immune system
And perhaps the last question, bring in some recent statistics about immunization rates, and pertussis, its re-emergence.
Thoughts?
If you like, I can put together a prezi or powerpoint for the case once we have a fully referenced consensus on an answer, as well as illustrations? Walden, would you and Alysha like to take the lead on compiling the information and referencing it? Armaan could then help design (or source) illustrations and I could edit the whole thing and compile a presentation, perhaps even add in some audio for explanations?
